Obesity is something that many Americans fight or see someone else fight on a regular basis. If you are dealing with obesity, especially severe obesity, you know how restricting it can be to be large in size. If you are obese and interested in starting a safe and sustainable regimen, you should perform strength training. Here are three reasons to make strength training the crux of your health regimen. 

The more muscle you gain, the easier to lose weight and move

One of the best reasons to develop muscle while you are obese is because muscle helps to fight fat. The more muscle mass you have, the better your body is able to burn calories, even when you are not working out. This will help stop weight gain, and it will help you to burn more while you are working out. More muscle also makes your body stronger, making it easier to move. Gaining more muscle while still in the process of losing weight can make walking for long distances or working out for several hours easier on your body. 

You can sit while working out

If you have trouble standing up, walking around a track or even walking around a treadmill can be difficult. When you are doing strength training, these exercises can often be performed sitting down or laying down if necessary. Ab crunches, leg lifts, and curl ups can be performed while sitting on a seat or laying back. If you often have issues with walking, or if tripping is a major hazard for someone of your size, strength training is the way to go. 

Equipment at home works just fine

If you are morbidly obese, it can be a hazard to use some of the equipment that commercial gyms may offer. The seats may be too small for you to fit inside. Falling around major equipment made of steel can also cause extensive damage if you are to trip or fall. If you go with strength training to help get into shape, you can work out inside of your home with your own set of weights, leg weights, and padded chairs. If your home is already set up to accommodate for your size, you can buy some simple workout equipment to get started on a strength training regimen.
